American soprano, Emily Casey, has been praised for the clarity, range and flexibility of her voice as well as her skillful dramatic and acting abilities. Ms. Casey, as comfortable on the musical theater stage as in opera, has been noted for her talent in embodying both dramatic and comic characters on the operatic stage. Recent lead roles include Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Juliette (Roméo et Juliette), Susannah (Susannah), Hannah (The Merry Widow), and La Voix in Poulenc's vocally and dramatically demanding La Voix Humaine.
Ms. Casey, a Washington, D.C. native, performs regularly as a soloist at the Italian and Australian embassies and The Metropolitan Club. Appearances this coming season include her debut with Opera Company of Brooklyn as Frasquita (Carmen) and Rosalinde (cover) in Die Fledermaus. She can be seen performing locally this spring with the CUA Symphony Orchestra as the soloist in Samuel Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915, as well as with CUA Opera Theater as Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi. Eugene Choo, who has performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington D. C., was the winner of the Gold Prize for violin and the Silver Prize for piano at the Seventh International Youth Praise Festival in 2010. Eugene began studying violin and piano at the age of 5, and his music education includes having studied both violin and piano at the Peabody Prepatory School for two years (2008-2010). He now studies violin with Mr. Ricardo Cyncynates (Assistant Concertmaster, National Symphony Orchestra) and studies piano with Mr. Artur Aksenov. At the Levine School of Music, he was selected to perform in recitals when the jury awarded Eugene with Distinction in the 2011, 2012 and 2014 Piano Juries, and was awarded the Second Prize at the Cogen Concerto Competition (Piano Intermediate Division) in 2012. In the 9th INPASS Praise Festival, he was the Gold Prize Winner in violin and the Silver Prize Winner in piano. Eugene was also selected to perform by the Youth Orchestras of Prince William in 2012 Winter Recital, 2013 Spring Recital and Winter Recital. In 2013, Eugene was the 2nd Place Winner in both piano and violin category at the American Protégé International Concerto Competition and also won 3rd Place in the 42nd Annual Joseph and Goldie Feder Memorial String Competition (Intermediate Violin Category) and received the Goldie B. Feder Award and performed at the Winner’s Concert at the Kennedy Center Millinium Stage in Washington D.C.. Also, Eugene was awarded 3rd prize at the Asian American Music Society (AAMS) International Competition in both piano and violin (Strings). In 2013, Eugene had a piano masterclass with Dr. Dmitri Shteinberg and was invited to perform (violin) with the Manassas Symphony Orchestra at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Virginia. In 2014. Eugene won 1st Prize in the Congen Concerto Competition in Piano and was invited to play for Mr. Andrew Sords Violin Masterclass.
Eugene Choo is 13 years old and is currently the Concertmaster of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Prince William. He attends Ronald Wilson Reagan Middle School, where he is in the seventh grade. |
Jeffry Newberger is a veteran of the Washington music scene and has made a reputation as a musician of great versatility. This season begins his fourth season as Assistant Conductor of both the Apollo Chamber Orchestra and Trinity Chamber Orchestra. Recently he made a highly successful debut as guest conductor of the Old Bridge Chamber Orchestra. In the 2011-12 season he was the conductor of the Shepherd Preparatory Orchestra at Shepherd University. He is in demand as a music director and has led recent productions of The Last Five Years, Ragtime, By Jeeves, Gallantry, and Padrevia.
An active performing violinist, Mr. Newberger is Assistant Concertmaster of the Apollo Chamber Orchestra and is a member of the Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra. Additionally, he has performed with the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra, Fairfax Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Choral Arts Society, Chamber Orchestra of Charlottesville, Concert Artists of Baltimore, Opera Camerata of Washington, and is a former member of the York (PA) Symphony Orchestra, with whom he was Acting Concertmaster at the age of 17. As an avid proponent of new music, he performs regularly with the Third Millennium Ensemble as violinist and conductor and has worked extensively with local composers to premiere their works. Mr. Newberger is featured as violin soloist with the DC-Area Snark Ensemble on the premiere film scores for the DVD releases of Harry Langdon: Lost and Found and Becoming Charley Chase. Jeffry is passionate about education and is an adjunct violin and viola instructor at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, WV and The McLean School of Maryland and the Landon School. He directs the Junior Strings of the Shepherd Preparatory Division and is a sectional coach for Frederick Regional Youth Orchestras and Shepherd Preparatory Orchestra. He has been a guest clinician at DC Youth Orchestras, Frederick Regional Youth Orchestras, Loudoun Symphony Youth Orchestra, and others. A fine singer, he also holds a position as tenor section leader at St. Stephen Martyr Catholic Church in Foggy Bottom. Mr. Newberger holds a Master of Music degree in Orchestral Conducting and a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance, magna cum laude, from the Benjamin T. Rome School of Music at the Catholic University of America. His conducting teachers were Kate Tamarkin and Piotr Gajewski and his violin teachers were Jody Gatwood and Odin Rathnam. This past summer, he studied with Kenneth Kiesler at the Conductors Retreat at Medomak. |
Joseph Wilson is a lyric tenor who recently played the role of the Count of Almaviva in Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia with Loudoun Lyric Opera. Other roles include Richard Dauntless (Ruddigore), Frederic (The Pirates of Penzance), Peppe (I pagliacci), Orphée (Orphée aux enfers), Roméo (Roméo et Juliette), Mr. Erlansen (A little night music), and Herman (The most happy fella). Outside of opera and theatre Mr. Wilson is an active recitalist having performed in numerous salons in the DC Metro area with the illustrious pianist Brad Clark. In 2010 he received a Bachelor of Music from Montclair State University. He is currently a student of Stanley Cornett and Henriette Lund.
